Most aeration equipment today injects compressed air into wastewater to create a stream of bubbles, similar to aerators found in a home fish tank. The bubbles typically are 20mm in size or larger and rush quickly to the surface.
Other aerators use fine-pore diffusers producing air bubbles between 2 and 4mm.
